INSTRUCTIONS
Project requirements
Each group had to come up with an original idea, develop a storyboard, then direct, film, and edit the entire piece. The goal was to apply most (if not all) of the skills learned throughout the module, including shot composition, sequencing, timing, sound, and colour grading in Premiere Pro.
Learning outcome
This project served as a practical summary of the course, pushing us to combine storytelling, technical filming, and editing into a cohesive, polished short film.
Having taken on the roles of director and cinematographer, I was also responsible for editing the footage we had shot.
Editing and collaboration
In the timeline, I arranged the main shots and cut them into a coherent sequence, making sure the pacing and story flow worked well within the one minute limit. To involve my group partner in the post‑production process, I left a clear space ( placeholder) between scenes where she could later add visual effects (VFX) to enhance the film and bring it all together.
Division of work
This setup allowed us to divide the editing work: I focused on the core edit, timing, transitions, and basic colour grading, while my partner handled the VFX elements in those designated sections.
For colour grading, I decided to use an adjustment layer instead of grading each scene individually, mainly because I was working under tight time constraints. This allowed me to apply a consistent look across all clips at once, saving a lot of time compared to adjusting each shot separately.
Working in pairs for the final project highlighted the importance of teamwork, clear communication, and dividing tasks effectively. Giving my partner space in the timeline for VFX was a small but meaningful way to collaborate and combine different strengths into one cohesive piece.
This experience deepened appreciation for the time, planning, and imagination that go into even short videos. It pushed to think more like a filmmaker, not just capturing images, but shaping a story with shots, sound, and colour. Overall, it was challenging at times, but also very rewarding to see how far the skills have come in such a short time.
