Task 1: Concept Proposal

Week 1 - Week 3

20/4/2026

Team:

  • Ayah Al Harmally
  • Erynn
  • Riskaa

After our professor's debrief of the overall module and first task, Erynn, Riskaa and I had paired together into a group. Together we were required to come up with a business idea that requires a well thought out website to succeed. Meaning good composition, design and interface.

We came up with ideas individually then proposed it to one another. The Ideas suggested were:

  • Bookstore / Book Cafe - Proposed by Riskaa

An interactive website featuring simple animations that will popping up when someone visited (inspired by the Heyzine flipbook & this website: https://neal.fun/deep-sea/) built around a specific theme (ex: like retro cafe aesthetic)

The site will clearly highlight the café's key facilities, each with a detailed explanation:

  • Co-working space

  • Music

  • Food & drink

  • Ambience

  • Comfortable sofas

  • 24-hour availability

  • Online booking features for room / books

  • Payment method

(It should be described in a clear, easy-to-read way (reference: Mokvok website style: https://mokvok.com/)

  • DNA Ancestry Test - Proposed by Ayah
I was thinking of creating a website that could compete with others. I didn't want to go for a known company/market and challenge that. It would be tricky and I don't think it would showcase my teams problem solving skills in detail.

I realised The DNA Ancestry market is quite desaturated. I noticed that the most known websites that offers such services are quite bleak. Very descriptive and aren't very appealing visually. It immediately showcased what my team and I could work on improving:

- Better UI/UX
- Better pricing, offers and discounts
Explain/showcase the product in a way that’s easier to grasp and understand

  • CD & Vinyls - Proposed by Erynn

Websites:

Pros & cons:

Ideas on how to improve:

  • More curated to customer’s taste (recommendations, ‘for you’ page)

    • Improve customer experience and personalization

  • Better design and layout

    • More consistent themes and colours in line with brand

    • Showcase of best sellers or currently trending albums

    • Display of availability (eg preorder, in stock, out of stock)

  • Deals and bundles

    • Attracts users to purchase a good deal

    • Users more likely to purchase more

Chosen idea: DNA ancestry test

Business name: InMyDNA

Suggestions: GeneGenie, InYourGenes, DNAncestry, knowmygene, myDNAtree,

UVP (what makes it different?): Story-driven results (similar to Spotify wraps) such as ‘Your ancestors likely migrated from….’, more colourful UI not as bland

Target Audience: Adults interested in connecting deeply with their roots/ancestors

Core goal: To encourage people to take our Ancestry test and connect with their backgrounds

How to improve:

  • More Colourful

  • Better pricing, Offers and discounts

  • Explain/showcase the product in a way that’s easier to grasp and understand
